A PMS-PABX interface in hospitality is a crucial, automated, two-way communication link between a hotel's Property Management System (PMS) and its Private Automatic Branch Exchange (PABX) telephone system. It allows real-time data exchange, enabling automatic guest check-in/out, call billing, room status updates, and wake-up calls, eliminating manual front desk input.
Key Functions of the PMS-PABX Interface:
Check-in/Check-out: When a guest checks in via the PMS, the phone is activated; upon check-out, it is deactivated, and call charges are automatically moved to the guest's folio.
Automated Billing: Call Detail Records (CDRs) for telephone usage are sent directly from the PBX to the PMS, ensuring accurate and automatic charging.
Room Status Updates: Housekeeping staff can change the status of a room (e.g., Cleaned, Dirty, Inspected) directly from the room telephone, which updates the PMS immediately.
Guest Personalization: The interface displays the guest’s name on the phone console when they call the front desk and allows personalized greetings.
Wake-up Calls: Guests can set their own wake-up calls via the room telephone, which are monitored and logged for completion.
Do Not Disturb (DND): Activating DND on the room phone updates the PBX and can sync with the PMS.
Common Protocols and Middleware:
The integration typically uses standardized protocols like FIAS (Fidelio Interface Application Specification) or UHLL (Universal Hospitality Language Layer) to ensure compatibility between different vendor systems.
